The turning point came in Denver where activists took a hard koine stance. Because of them all other cities fell in line. The abuse I took pales in comparison to what others experienced. Housing I have quickly learned is grossly inaccessible and the knee jerk reply is no. No accessible apartments exist. In terms of home ownership access is stigmatizing. In NY a percentage of new homes have to be accessible. A builder showed me some new homes. He explained a lag bolt was used to attach a ramp to the house. As soon as people purchase the home they remove ramp. So like you in almost 20 years of living in Westchester county I have been in two other homes. Both were semi accessible all others totally inaccessible william Peacehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00223601480542461802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1556371561007953336.post-46754747722897040102014-04-22T09:12:10.336-07:002014-04-22T09:12:10.336-07:00Bill, sadly it is the nature of these struggles th...Bill, sadly it is the nature of these struggles that one battle is won, yet more remain. I am more familiar with the stigma against people with mental health problems rather than physical, though the two do overlap for some. In light of my experiences with mental health, I am both horrified yet not surprised to hear how you were treated, and what is happening in Korea.

As John Kelly said above, great post. across the great dividehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01428107488561547580noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1556371561007953336.post-87018099030289099312014-04-22T08:59:44.617-07:002014-04-22T08:59:44.617-07:00Great post! It is so amazing how hostile people were to your efforts to take the bus back in the 1980s. accessible housing is the number one issue facing disabled people in probably every city. I cannot visit any of my friends who are not wheelchair users.
You know what the answer is? The answer is that when some people get injured at a Boston marathon event, the state of Massachusetts will pay for renovations to your house, so that no one need notice the access exclusion.
When Mayor Thomas Menino couldn't return home because his house was inaccessible, he stayed downtown at the Parker House. No one ever said a word about accessible housing.John Kellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15629282925024337676noreply@blogger.com
